This spectacular mountain town offers excellent outdoor excursions, beautiful scenery, and fun adventures. While we traveled here during National Holiday, we still found great escapes amidst the high volume of tourist. From the city center of West Street, full of shops, bars, and restaurants for all likings, you can choose to venture north, following the mountain roads to Seven Stars Tea Plantation or head westward to caves, river cruises, and mountain views. Travel is relatively cheap, so long as your bargaining skills are warmed up. Chose to be free and rent a motorbike to spend the days there. Don't hesitate to get lost... the views make it worthwhile.
It is recommended to take the train to Guilin Station and then take a bus south to Yangshuo, depending on where you're coming from. Our 5-hour bus ride turned into 8 hours on the way to Yangshuo and 9 hours on the way back to Foshan. Of course, the highways were overcrowded with nationalist traveling during the National Holiday and poor weather conditions in South China.
